Coyote Ragtime Show – episode 5

“Never Change”

The fun never stops for Mister’s Ragtime Band. Except when Franca is involved, because she seemes to have an unhealthy obsession with abandonment.

All of the characters on this particular wrong side of the law have nothing but noble intentions, so she should just get over it. In the future, everyone will have robot heads in bird cages, and we will be better for it.

Kiba – episode 19

“The Land of Darkness”

“Noa! Awaken the tool inside!”

A new arc already, in the sense that we’ve got a change of scenery affected from the hub world of Kiba. There are several good things about this episode, the first being that we get to see Zed’s mother in flashback (remember how she’s supposed to be important?) and we can begin to comprehend that Noa is what one of my friends would call a “toolio”.

Mushishi – episode 24

“Bound for Bonfire Field”

What I love about Mushishi is that almost every episode is the “best episode yet”. This episode was positively cinematic in its execution and proves once and for all that fire is bad.

Ouran High School Host Club – episode 17

“A holiday that Kyouya didn’t ask for”

I vote that we have a series of episodes in which Haruhi goes on dates with the individual members of the Host Club so that the audience can decide which one they love the most. Actually, that’s what’s already happened. Ignore me.

Coyote Ragtime Show – episode 4

“The days that have passed by”

The strange references popping up in anime all over the place continue in this episode of Coyote Ragtime Show, with an inescapable bank vault compared to the Hotel California (“you can check out any time you like but~ you can never leave!”)
Otherwise it’s a heist episode that proves that criminals are only in it for love of the game when they could so easily be leading “real” jobs with their genius.

Digimon Savers – episode 9

August 6, 2006 on 9:21 pm | In Digimon Savers | Comments Off on Digimon Savers – episode 9

“Tohma’s Dishonorable Battle
The Secretly Maneuvering Togemon”

Despite my realisation that Digimon Savers has presented several cases of people making Faustian deals with Digimon, this episode was an effective mystery story. As an added bonus, all of the boxing scenes were reminiscent of the likes of Tomorrow’s Joe (Ashita no Joe).

Honey & Clover II – episode 5

“Suffering even though I’m happy”

I was laughing at the end of this episode. Laughing because, Yamada, you have figured it out and don’t yet want to admit it to yourself. Embrace the truth! The truth shall make ye free!

Kind of spoilers

Kimagure Orange Road – episodes 17-24

August 6, 2006 on 9:16 pm | In Kimagure Orange Road | 1 Comment

Summer comes to Orange Road and makes the marvellous atmosphere even more marvellous. The program is at its best when it deals explicitly with the characters rather than the love problems that they endure.
